Just recently the nation’s attention was drawn to the Glenn Beck Restoring Honor Rally in Washignton DC. Now, it seems the internet population wants Stephen Colbert to host his very own rally, the Stephen Colbert “Restoring Truthiness” Rally.

Stephen Colbert, the host of the Emmy winning Colbert Report is seemingly idolized by millions of Americans who are tired of the way the news is broadcast as well as the politics in this country. From this, the ColbertRally.com website emerged to try and spread the idea of the Restoring Truthiness rally. On the site, it asks everyone to spread the word about the potential rally, on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites at noon today.

The idea which originated on Reddit to, “see Stephen Colbert flip a mirror to the Tea Party and show them just how ridiculous they are,” has grown tremendously in the last few days, covered by numerous news outlets, and even getting over 100,000 fans on a Facebook page. Here is the reason why we need this rally, according to the ColbertRally website:

America, we are at a crossroad. Truthiness in this nation is at an all-time low since the inception of the concept was founded by the great American, Stephen Colbert. In its rich history over the past five years, Truthiness has become synonymous with American values such as freedom, honor, and Taco Bell. Recently our nation has suffered a truthiness drain. In fact, untruthiness is as common as measles vaccinations that cause cancer. We as a nation have stopped relying on our emotions and gut. We need to get back to what makes this nation great. Nation, it’s no secret. I’m a huge fan of Stephen Colbert. So, naturally, when I heard about the possibility of a “Restoring Truthiness” rally, I had to do my part; and as a member of the liberal media, my role is to report news to you, the Colbert Nation. Let me stop talking like Stephen Colbert and start giving you the details.

It all started after a post on Reddit.com shared a vision: to see Stephen Colbert flip a mirror to the Tea Party and show them just how ridiculous they are. As the movement has progressed, however, it has opened its sights to politics in general. The message? Lighten up.

This rapidly expanding movement has been covered by the Huffington Post, New York Observer, and other media outlets. But even more important to any “viral” campaign is the response by us, the Nation.

A Facebook page (100,000 Strong to Restore Truthiness) has been created and so far has over 17,000 members. In addition, a website and twitter account have been created to get this rally off the ground.

Everything is falling into place for an awesome event, but it’s up to you to get it off the ground. Get your friends, family, pets, and neighbors to join in. It’s about time we restore truthiness in America.

The atmosphere is intense as the sensational game of football comes to each schools in the United States. The kick start of this long NCAA season began last September 2, 2010. Who will qualify for the upcoming bowl is the biggest question lingering in most college students.

After Boise State’s convincing win over the Virginia Tech Hokies, the voters need to make sure to take notice. 

The Broncos of Boise State showed off every facet of their game. They dominated the opening quarter with a suffocating defense, they showed off their special teams prowess, and they put their explosive offense on display in the final two minutes. The team was brilliant at various points throughout the game, and dare I say, BCS worthy. 

It’s time for the voters to throw out their preseason ballots and pretend they know nothing about college football history. The days of Tim Tebow and Colt McCoy are behind us and it’s time for the rankings to reflect that. 

The AP Top 25’s preseason poll had the top five teams in the country as follows: Alabama, Ohio State, Boise State, Florida, and Texas. 

Although they maintained the same top five in their preseason poll, the USA Today Poll’s was slightly shuffled. The coaches who voted in this poll moved both Florida and Texas ahead of Boise State, leaving the Broncos to drop down to the No. 5 spot in the rankings.

It’s time for one of the two to reconsider and Boise State did their best to make the coaches and not the Associated Press be the ones to do so.

How The Top Five Teams Fared

Alabama, the holder of the No. 1 spot in both rankings, had the luxury of playing San Jose State in their season opener. Even without the services of Heisman winner Mark Ingram, they thoroughly destroyed the opposition in a 48-3 rout. 

Ohio State was No. 2 in both polls going into the season. The Buckeyes, led by dual threat quarterback Terrelle Pryor, destroyed the Marshall Thundering Herd 45-7 in their game. However, the Buckeyes first true test will come next weekend against Miami.

Now here’s where the rankings start to differ.

The USA Today’s poll had the Florida Gators in the No. 3 spot and they failed to live up to the expectations. Although they beat Miami (Ohio) 34-12 in the first game of the John Brantley era, the Gators were absolutely awful. They couldn’t even master the quarterback-center exchange and would have lost the game if they were playing any school in the SEC. 

The AP Top 25 had Boise State in the No. 3 spot. Led by Kellen Moore, one of the preseason Heisman candidates, the Broncos showed remarkable resiliency in their hard-fought victory over the Hokies of Virginia Tech. 

Texas, No. 5 in the AP Top 25 and No. 4 in the USA Today Poll, is the last remaining team of the top five. Playing without Colt McCoy for the first time in four years, the Longhorns offense sputtered its way to a 34-17 victory against Rice, failing to score in the first quarter.

How The Rankings Should Change

Even though the top two teams failed to play stiff competition, they thoroughly dominated their opponents, and that’s really all you can ask for in that situation. Texas and Florida however did struggle in their openers, and despite getting wins they showed that their are still going to be significant growing pains experienced as Garrett Gilbert and John Brantley take the helms of their respective programs.

Boise State though proved that they are for real. The team they played, Virginia Tech, was ranked No. 10 and No. 6 by the two polls and they played quite well in their game. However Kellen Moore and the rest of the Broncos were just too much for them. 

The coaches who vote in the USA Today Poll should take notice of this dangerous team and move them up in the rankings to No. 3. They deserve the spot.

Comedian Robert Schimmel died a week after being injured in a car accident, and celebrities are paying homage to the groundbreaking comic.

Schimmel, who was 60 years old, was in a car accident on August 26. He died on Firday at a Phoenix hospital. His daughter Aliyah was driving the car and his son was a passenger, but both are expected to recover.

A frequent guest on Howard Stern’s radio show and Late Nigh with Conan O’Brien, Schimmel was best known for his sexual humor which was often times quite taboo. He also battled numerous health problems, and chronicled his bout with cancer in a 2008 memoir called Cancer on Five Dollars a Day* (*chemo not included): How Humor Got Me Through the Toughest Journey of My Life. He revealed earlier this year that he had cirrhosis of the liver because of a blood transfusion he received while in the air force that was tainted with hepatitis C.

Over the weekend, comedian Robert Schimmel died as the result of injuries sustained in a car crash in Scottsdale, Arizona the previous week.

A frequent guest on The Howard Stern Show, Schimmel was also known for his battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. In 2008, he published Cancer on Five Dollars a Day* (*chemo not included): How Humor Got Me Through the Toughest Journey of My Life, which chronicled his experience fighting the disease. He also incorporated cancer stories into his act.

As news spread of his passing over the Labor Day weekend, many comedians were taking to Twitter to express their condolences. Here’s a sample of what they had to say:

The name of a 19-year-old Bronx man killed in Vietnam has been added to a war monument in Van Nest, after his friend noticed the oversight and did something about it.

State Senate candidate Gustavo Rivera is asking the Justice Department to send federal election observers to the northwest Bronx on Primary Day. He says he’s concerned Espada may attempt to suppress voter turnout. As close followers of this race will have heard by now, lawyer Daniel Padernacht has dropped out and is now supporting Rivera. This morning Padernacht’s making his endorsement official. (Espada is also unveiling endorsements today.) With Padernacht gone, the Daily News’ Bob Kappstatter says Rivera and Espada are now “neck and neck.” That and more in his weekly column.

Robert Schimmel, a Bronx-born stand up comic who’s best known for his appearances on The Howard Stern Show, has died in hospital from injuries sustained in a car accident last month.

The owner of a Bronx nail salon faces a hefty fine after refusing to serve a disabled woman. “We don’t take her kind here,” the store owner allegedly said.

To honor Bob Schimmel’s passing, Howard Stern announced this morning that there will be a special in Bob’s memory tonight, September 7, Howard 101 (at 7 p.m.).

Bob Schimmel was a frequent guest on Howard Stern and a good friend to all on the show, so his death last Friday hit Stern and his fans pretty hard.

Robert Schimmel was involved in a car crash and suffered serious injuries after the car, driven by his 19-year-old daughter, rolled to the side of the freeway when she attempted to avoid another car. He died Friday at age 60.

Howard Stern talked about Schimmel during his radio show this morning and made mention of the Bob Schimmel special on Howard 101 tonight.

Stern noted that Schimmel is a “hard guy to forget.” Based on the outpouring of fan love, I’d say that’s about right.
